The Halston Opens: A Landmark for Affordable Housing in NSW
Last week, the Fuse Architects team were proud to attend the official opening of The Halston, North Strathfield, opened by NSW Premier Chris Minns and joined by Ministers Paul Scully, Rose Jackson, and Anoulack Chanthivong.
The Halston represents a milestone achievement, the first residential development completed under the NSW Government’s 2023 Affordable Housing Policy and the new In-fill Affordable Housing Bonus. As architects, we are honoured to have contributed to a project that demonstrates how design can deliver both affordability and quality, creating homes that are inclusive, resilient, and connected to community.
The opening ceremony highlighted the significance of this project for Sydney’s housing future. Premier Minns emphasised the importance of building homes across the city for people on low and moderate incomes, while Urban Property Group CEO Patrick Elias underlined that affordability does not mean compromise, and disability does not mean exclusion. Stories shared by new residents, including Lorna Clarke, brought to life the profound impact that well-designed, affordable housing can have on individual lives and communities.
